The Nursing Institute

Bethany Village

Bethany.jpgBethany Village provides a variety of lifestyle options for senior adults. Bethany’s 100-acre campus includes cottages, villas, and apartments as well as assisted living, long-term nursing care, memory-supported care and short-term rehabilitation services.

Bethany Village is a nationally accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community, ensuring quality senior living. Established in 1946, it has been devoted to faithfully caring for the needs of older adults. Bethany Village is sponsored by Graceworks Lutheran Services, an organization incorporated in 1926 and motivated by the mission to help people of all faiths experience dignity and wholeness.

The Nursing Institute Living Laboratory is a nine room residential home located on the campus of Bethany Village in Kettering, Ohio, and generously made available to The Nursing Institute at Wright State University by Graceworks Lutheran Services. In 2009, the facility was granted $600,000 in state and federal funds to provide human patient simulators and state of the art cameras and video capabilities to establish a one-of-a-kind learning environment for health care workers, students and family members as they care for patients in the home. The provision of care at home is growing rapidly due to the aging in place movement, patients returning home earlier from hospitalization, and more disabled and medically fragile patients and veterans are choosing to remain in the home setting while being cared for by a team of family members and professionals.

Since opening in 2009, The Nursing Institute Living Laboratory has educated hundreds of nursing students, hosted dozens of collaborative regional meetings, and greeted visitors from scores of national, state and local agencies, and foreign lands.

The Living Laboratory serves as an ideal site for home care training.

Health Care by Black Stone

Black Stone logo2.jpgHome Healthcare by Black Stone is Medicare certified to provide in-home care services. Medicare reimbursed services are considered “skilled,” meaning there is an acute medical need for a nurse to tend to the patient, and the patient’s condition must be curable or made stable. Medicare reimbursed services are duration-specific and not meant for long-term care in the home.

Home Healthcare by Black Stone in-home care services are reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, United Health Care, and most insurances. Medicare services must be physician ordered and meet requirements for reimbursement.

Kindred Hospital – Dayton

kindred-hospital.pngKindred Hospital-Dayton is a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital specializing in the care of patients with complex extended medical needs.  These patients are often ventilator-dependent, technology dependent (IV therapy/dialysis) or have medically complex conditions such as pulmonary disease, cardiac disease, pressure wounds or post-operative complications.

In 2012, Kindred Hospital Dayton and The Nursing Institute collaborated to develop a hospital-based high fidelity human simulation learning laboratory. The Nursing Institute provided a high fidelity simulation mannequin, training on hardware and software components and running of simulation scenarios.  Kindred Hospital Dayton serves as a clinical practicum site for Wright State University College of Nursing and Health students during their high acuity nursing course.
